Terms & Conditions
The We Generation is a website for youth owned and run by Kids Can Free The Children, a non-profit organization registered in the United States, Canada and several other countries. For more information about Free The Children, please visit www.freethechildren.com.
By accessing this site, you acknowledge that you agree to these Terms and Conditions. You also give Free The Children permission to collect non-personal information from you. Please read the privacy policy to find out what kind of non-personal information we collect.
Age
You must be 14 or older to sign up for an account, upload a project or upload any media like pictures, videos and stories. We would love if people 13 and under could do this too, but it’s illegal. Sorry. Also, we hope that people 14-18 will get permission from their parents or guardians before signing up for an account.
If Free The Children learns that you’re under 14 and have an account, or that you’re 14-18 but don’t have your parents permission to use the site, we may suspend your account or block your IP address from using our site.
Old people
The We Generation is meant to be used by youth in University/College or younger. If you’re more than 22 years old, we suggest you use our adult site, www.freethechildren.com. If we learn that you’re older than 22 and using a youth account to post content or comment on the We Generation, we may suspend your account or block your IP address from accessing the site. We limit the age of users to 22 so the site can be an authentic, safe place for children and youth to connect with each other.
We welcome elementary school educators to post content on behalf of their elementary-school-aged students 13 and under, who can’t sign up for their own accounts. Parents, we invite you to look around and take part in the site with your kids, but please remember that the purpose of the site is for young people to connect with each other.
Accounts
We hope that people 14 or older will register for an account so they can fully take advantage of all the features the We Generation offers. Accounts allow you to post comments, upload media and post projects. When you sign up for an account, you agree to these Terms and Conditions. You also agree to let us collect information from you above and beyond the non-personal information we collect from non-account users. For details on this information, please read our privacy policy.
Appropriate use
All comments, media and projects you post have to be appropriate for everyone who reads this site. Any content that’s racist, sexist, homophobic, ableist or discriminatory in any other way will be removed. We also forbid any content that has nudity, swear words or bad language, and violence. We may suspend your account or block your IP address from accessing this site if you post this kind of content.
Copyright
You need to have permission to use any of the media content that you post on this site. For example, if you want to post a video and it uses music as a soundtrack, you have to have copyright for this music. When you upload media, you confirm that you have permission to use and distribute that media.
Monitoring
Our staff monitors all content, projects and comments posted to the site. They will remove inappropriate content using their judgment and in keeping with the appropriate use and copyright guidelines above.
Photo releases
When you post photos with people in them, including yourself, you acknowledge that you have permission from all the people in the photo to distribute their image. You also give Free The Children license to distribute their image (see permission for use below).
Permission for use
When you upload media content, including stories and pictures, you give Free The Children permission to use this content in other communications with the public, electronic and in print. You also give permission for our partner organization, Me to We, to use this content in their electronic and print communications. We won’t distribute this information to any other organizations, including the media, unless we contact you for your permission first.
Links
The We Generation includes links to external websites. We do everything we can to make sure these sites are appropriate for children, but in the end, what gets posted on other websites is beyond our control. We recommend that you don’t follow any external links from our site unless you get permission from your parents first.
Videos and media ratings
Videos, audio, photos and other media posted on the We Generation aren’t rated. We do everything we can to make sure videos we post are appropriate for children, but “appropriateness” means something different to everyone. We recommend that you don’t watch any videos on our site unless you get permission from your parents first.
Limits of Liability
We do everything we can to make sure our site is safe for children and adults, but security on the Internet is never perfect. We recommend that parents take an active role in their children’s Internet use to ensure their kids are safe.
Free The Children isn’t responsible for anything that happens to you as a result of use of this site.
